While 2009 saw the financial markets take a large nose-dive in the first quarter, the end of the year saw incredible gains in the markets. The research organization, Lipper, recognized several of our investment options for their performance relative to their peer universe.
As we look forward to 2010, you can remain confident that our focus remains on our mission: “Serving those who serve the Lord… with the integrity of our hearts and the skillfulness of our hands.” Those words, penned in Psalm 78:72 guide the choices our 400-plus employees make every day in serving you.
While we are encouraged about what 2010 has in store, we cannot ignore the plight of the people of Haiti who have been so devastated by the earthquake January 12, and the frequent aftershocks. I would encourage you first and foremost to pray that Christ might be lifted up in the midst of the chaos, for the recovery efforts and for the people on the ground — both nationals and aid workers — as they struggle through these days. Also, please consider financially assisting any of our wonderful sister Southern Baptist agencies who are participating in the relief efforts in Haiti.
The International Mission Board Haiti Response Fund, the North American Mission Board Disaster Relief Fund, the Baptist Global Response Haiti Earthquake Relief Fund and the Florida Baptist Disaster Relief each are organizations doing great work on the ground. Best of all, you can rest assured that 100% of funds received for this purpose will go to help people in Haiti; none is used for administrative costs.
