GuideStone’s Doug Day announces retirement

Douglas D. Day, executive officer for insurance solutions and services, has announced his retirement from GuideStone Financial Resources of the Southern Baptist Convention effective December 31, 2009. Having spent nearly a quarter of a century at the Dallas-based financial services organization, Day said, “Twenty-four years of service through GuideStone has been a memorable journey filled with people and opportunities that I will never forget.”
GuideStone President O. S. Hawkins affirmed Day’s service to Southern Baptists, “Doug Day has exemplified the spirit of our motto, ‘serving those who serve the Lord.’ His heart-felt concern for ministers and their families has permeated every hour of his ministry.”
Day began his service with GuideStone (the Annuity Board) in August of 1986 as a marketing manager. During his 24 years of service, he has served in numerous capacities in relationship management as well as insurance operations and insurance product development.
In reviewing his years of service with GuideStone, Day stated, “Working with churches and institutions across the SBC has enhanced my life and the staff at GuideStone have become part of my family.”
John R. Jones, executive vice president and chief operating officer of GuideStone, expressed his gratitude for Day. “Doug’s leadership and insights into the needs of Southern Baptist ministers and denominational employees have enabled multitudes to enjoy a sense of security that frees them to continue to minister.”
Prior to joining GuideStone, Doug worked with the Baptist General Convention of Texas and prior to that managed an SBC project called Video Tape Service.
He holds a B.S. from the University of Tennessee and did graduate studies at Mississippi State University. He attended Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary and Memphis State Law School. Doug is a Certified Financial Planner.
Day is married to the former Jean East. Doug and Jean have two children, a son, Michael, and a daughter, Laura. Michael and his wife, Lynn, have given Doug and Jean two grandchildren and a third is on the way.
