Quarterly Call to Prayer

Pray for:

International missions

  • SUB-SAHARAN AFRICAN UNENGAGED PEOPLES. The Wara people live in a remote area of Africa. They are a very small people group of approximately 4,500 people and live in a small, highly concentrated area. The Wara people are animistic, and there is no evangelical work being done among them. Please pray for the Gospel to be taken to the Wara people and for them to prepare to follow the one true God.
  • SOUTH KOREA. Baptist representatives Robert and Ellen Hale live and work in Seoul with college students. Please ask God to supply supporting professors who can help them establish an official presence on two campuses and will share their vision.
  • SOUTH ASIAN PEOPLES. Ahmadiyya is a persecuted Muslim people group. This Pakistan-based religion claims to be Muslim, but is considered to be a cult by mainstream Muslims. Due to persecution in Pakistan, Ahmadiyya followers are scattered throughout the world. In 2011 in Pakistan, more than 100 Ahmadiyya were baptized. Pray for Ahmadiyya-background believers to find ways to become missionaries to their own people!

Answered prayers:

  • SOUTH ASIAN UNENGAGED PEOPLES. The task of reaching all the unengaged unreached people groups (UUPGs) of Karnataka and Andhra Pradesh, India, seems insurmountable, but God knows how it can be done! We are beginning to see one of the ways that God is accomplishing this purpose through the ‘embracing’ of UUPGs by churches. We are praising God that 12 of our UUPGs were embraced by churches in the United States. He has been answering your prayers that these people would be able to involve others in their churches in praying for the UUPG. Please pray for our leadership to have the wisdom to know how to facilitate the churches beginning to have an impact on these people groups.
  • REACHING XTREME PEOPLES OF SOUTH AMERICA. Praise God for the strength and perseverance He has granted Bolivia Women’s Team members, Kelli Johnson and Leah Brown, thus far in the discipleship of new believers in Salvatierra, in answer to your prayers!
  • AMHARA OF ETHIOPIA (ahm-HAR-ah). Praise God that, in answer to your prayers, more Bibles arrived for the Ethiopia Bible Society. Workers purchased more than 3,000 of them and put them in the hands of a born-again Orthodox priest for Bible distribution.

North American missions

  • Pray for churches in New York City. Seven SBC churches were affected by a ruling earlier this year that prevents churches from meeting in public school facilities. That ruling is currently under appeal.
  • Pray for continued efforts with Send North America, Southern Baptists' strategy for evangelistic church planting in North America. Pray for established churches to see the need and partner to start new churches.
  • Pray for Kathy Litton, national director of NAMB's ministry to pastors' wives, as she engages wives across the country to hear hearts and identify issues and needs.

Theological education

Midwestern (Kansas City, Missouri)

  • Pray for the Korean Studies Program which is influencing nearly 200 Korean leaders/students. Pray for students experiencing significant cultural and financial challenges, and for the leader, Dr. Timothy Chong.
  • Pray for the new online Bachelor of Arts in Christian Ministry and Master of Arts in Theological Studies programs, as they will serve the needs of God-called men and women who do not have access to our Baptist colleges and seminaries.
  • Pray that, through God’s wisdom, the administration sets timely and realistic goals to help the seminary to continue to flourish. Pray that friends of Midwestern supporting the ministry, both financially and spiritually, will be encouraged to make a significant investment which will help boost the institution’s long-term stability and productivity.
  • Pray for wisdom and that due diligence will be made by the trustees in determining the seminary’s next president.

Southeastern (Wake Forest, North Carolina)

  • Please pray for students who are being called to the mission field that they would quickly cast aside all fear and doubt and obey.
  • Please pray for spring and summer mission trips that God would move in the hearts of all who will hear the gospel, and they would come to know Him as Lord and Savior.
  • Please pray for the spring Board of Trustees and Board of Visitors meetings. Pray for safe travel and that God will provide clear direction and vision for Southeastern.

Southern (Louisville, Kentucky)

  • Praise the Lord for the successful adoption process for Justin and Bonnie Myers, who just added two beautiful children from Ethiopia to their family!
  • Pray for the families in Indiana who were affected by the recent tornadoes and Southern’s continued efforts to minister to them.
  • Pray for God’s grace for staff as they travel.
  • Pray for upcoming mission trips to: London, South Asia, New York City, Utah, and West Virginia. Pray for safety, evangelistic efforts and for many to come to Christ

Ethics and Religious Liberty Commission

  • Pray that we would be sensitive to the leading of God's Spirit with regard to new projects and opportunities.
  • Pray that God would send us the right people to join the team and expand the work He has called us to do.
  • Pray that we would live with a Christ-like character as we represent Christ and Southern Baptist across the country.
