It’s not too late to complete the 2010 Compensation Survey for Southern Baptist churches

March 15, 2010

Editor's Note: GuideStone and LifeWay have extended the survey to May 15 to give more church employees a chance to participate. The extended deadline will provide more authoritative results, but will delay report availability until later this summer.

DALLAS — According to GuideStone, 7,000 ministers and church staff had completed the Compensation Survey for Southern Baptist churches, as of March 15, 2010. SBC church ministers and employees are encouraged to take the survey at www.lifeway.com/compensationsurvey. The deadline for completion is April 30.

Survey results benefit each participating church by providing an accurate baseline of compensation among similar-sized churches in their state convention. Customized reports allow administrators, personnel/finance committees and minister search teams to better determine adequate compensation for ministers and staff. Accordingly, a higher number of survey participants leads to a more accurate baseline of compensation. When the survey was last taken in 2008, more than 13,000 individuals completed the survey. Current participation in the 2010 survey stood at 7,004 as of March 15.

The survey can be completed in less than 10 minutes on average. Survey participants need to have access to information regarding their salary, benefits, their church’s estimated weekly worship or Bible study attendance, resident membership and annual budget. All information is kept confidential and no individual answers will be reported.

The compensation survey is provided through the joint efforts of Baptist state conventions, LifeWay Christian Resources and GuideStone Financial Resources. GuideStone and LifeWay compile the submitted data and provide all users with access to the results. Survey results will be released in time for the Southern Baptist Convention this summer.

Southern Baptist church ministers and staff can complete the survey through April 30 by visiting www.lifeway.com/compensationsurvey. Additionally, a printed version of the survey may be obtained by contacting GuideStone Financial Resources at 1-888-98-GUIDE (1-888-984-8433) between 7 a.m. and 6 p.m. CST Monday–Friday or by calling your state convention office.
