Property and Casualty Insurance

GuideStone® offers property and casualty insurance designed to fit the needs of your church or ministry.

When the unexpected happens — fire, theft, accidents, liability claims — your ministry’s work can be disrupted in an instant. At GuideStone Agency Services® (NPN#11466614), we help safeguard your people, property and purpose so you can stay focused on your mission.

Ministry and Church Insurance Options

Property Insurance

Cover your buildings, property and belongings. If your ministry is damaged, destroyed or the victim of theft, this policy can help lessen financial burdens resulting from a loss.

Liability and Excess Liability Insurance

Guard your ministry, employees, leaders and volunteers from lawsuits, liabilities and losses. Also ensure that what makes your ministry unique is protected with excess liability insurance.

Commercial Auto

Provide coverage for people’s injuries and your ministry’s vehicles in the event of an accident. A commercial auto policy can help lessen financial burdens arising from vehicle liabilities, collisions, personal injury and more.

Workers' Compensation

Help employees who suffer from a work-related injury or illness by offering workers’ compensation to help pay for medical, disability, rehabilitation and, in rare instances, expenses associated with death on the job. Protect your ministry from financial loss in the event that an employee files a suit for a work-related injury or illness.

Frequently Asked Questions

What does it mean that GuideStone Agency Services operates as an “independent insurance agency”?

GuideStone Agency Services (GSAS) is a wholly owned affiliate of GuideStone Financial Resources of the Southern Baptist Convention. For many years, GSAS offered church insurance primarily through a single carrier. We have since transitioned to an independent agency model — a change initiated at the end of 2025. As an independent insurance agency under GuideStone Financial Resources, we are no longer limited to one insurer's products and pricing. Instead, we can evaluate coverage across multiple carriers and match a policy to a church's actual needs.

This benefits your ministry in four practical ways:

  • Access to multiple insurance companies: Broader market access means more coverage options and potentially more competitive pricing.
  • Coverage tailored for ministry needs: Policies are structured around the unique risks, governance and mission of a ministry rather than generic commercial assumptions.
  • Ministry advocacy: We represent your interests with carriers during placement, renewal and claims.
  • Risk-management resources: Proactive guidance and tools help reduce losses and strengthen long-term sustainability.
What types of property and casualty insurance does a church typically need?

Most ministries need a layered combination of coverages rather than a single policy. The common building blocks are property insurance (buildings and contents), general liability, and, where applicable, workers' compensation and commercial auto. Many ministries add specialized protections such as sexual abuse and molestation liability, directors and officers (D&O) liability, employment practices liability and cyber coverage. The right mix depends on your facilities, programs and staffing.

Why shouldn't we simply choose a property and casualty insurance policy with the lowest premium?

Two policies can look comparable on price yet respond very differently when you actually need them. Focusing only on premium can lead a ministry to accept provisions that quietly reduce protection — such as abuse claims reported years later being excluded without prior-acts coverage, defense costs that erode your limits, managed-repair provisions that settle below full replacement or roof sub-limits and higher deductibles that cap recovery. Your GSAS agent can help you look beyond price to see how coverage is structured and how it would perform at the time of a claim.

Why choose a ministry-focused agency instead of a general insurance agent when it comes to property and casualty insurance?

Church insurance is a specialized field. Many general-market agents lack experience with the unique exposures of ministries — multi-use facilities, volunteer workers, mission travel, pastoral counseling and religious-expression risks — which standard commercial policies may not address well. Because we work exclusively with churches and ministries, we know the right questions to ask and how to structure coverage to fit your ministry's operations.

Risk Management Resources

Churches and ministry organizations like yours face a growing and overwhelming number of risks. Great protection goes beyond coverages — it also includes prevention. We designed these resources to empower and equip your ministry toward Christ-centered well-being. Read about developing policies and procedures, abuse prevention, safety and security, disaster preparation and response, overall risk management and more.
