Mission:Dignity® recipients in Pennsylvania/South Jersey will receive an extra check — a 13th check — in 2023, thanks to churches in the Baptist Resource Network of Pennsylvania/South Jersey.

Pennsylvania/South Jersey is the latest state convention to join with GuideStone® to provide a check equivalent to one month’s honorarium to Mission:Dignity recipients within their state.

"The Baptist Resource Network is thankful for the opportunity to come alongside and pay honor to those who have faithfully labored in the ministry through the years," said Barry Whitworth, executive director. "We know the Lord watches over them, but it is special to be able to show our care and gratitude as well through this 13th check. We want every recipient to know we joyfully value, love, and pray for them."

In 2022, Mission:Dignity assisted more than 2,800 individuals with extra money needed for housing, food and vital medications. It also ensures a well-deserved dignity, independence and, often, the ability to continue serving the Lord. Last year, six pastors and their wives, or their widows, in Pennsylvania/South Jersey were served through Mission:Dignity.

GuideStone President Hance Dilbeck expressed his thanks for the continued generosity of Pennsylvania/South Jersey SBC churches.

“What a privilege it is to provide financial assistance to these retired pastors and their widows,” Dilbeck said. “The churches in Pennsylvania and southern New Jersey have made clear their support for pastors and pastor widows in their states through this generous gift and we know it will be a blessing to the recipients there.

Mission:Dignity expressed its thankfulness for the efforts of Pennsylvania/South Jersey churches.

“Pennsylvania/South Jersey Southern Baptist have caught the vision to care for these pastors, ensuring they receive the double honor that they’re due,” Mission:Dignity Director Aaron Meraz said. “We are thankful for the support these churches are providing.”
