Mission:Dignity® recipients in Ohio will receive an extra check in 2023, thanks to a generous gift from the State Convention of Baptists in Ohio.
“Ohio Baptists are blessed to serve those financially who have served the Lord faithfully,” said Jeremy Westbrook, executive director-treasurer for the SCBO. “I am thrilled to announce that our Ohio Mission Council board members and Messengers to the 2023 Annual Meeting have voted to partner with GuideStone’s Mission:Dignity and offer a 13th check to servants of the Lord who qualify. As Dr. Adrian Rogers once said, ‘God has not called us to be a reservoir, but a conduit.’”
In 2022, Mission:Dignity assisted more than 2,800 retired Southern Baptist workers, ministers and widows near or below the poverty line with extra money needed for housing, food and vital medications. It also ensures a well-deserved dignity, independence and, often, the ability to continue serving the Lord. Last year, in Ohio, 22 pastors and their wives, or widows, were served through Mission:Dignity.
GuideStone President Hance Dilbeck expressed his thanks for the continued generosity of Ohio Baptists.
“We truly believe it is a privilege to ensure we offer these ‘old soldiers of the cross’ a double honor for their service unto the Lord,” Dilbeck said. “What a joy it is to join with the SCBO in ensuring that Mission:Dignity recipients in their state are well cared for.”
Mission:Dignity expressed its thankfulness for the efforts of Ohio churches.
“Ohio Baptists are to be commended for their generosity to these retired ministers, their wives and in many cases minister widows,” Aaron Meraz, director of Mission:Dignity said. “The timing of this extra check is such a blessing as we enter the Thanksgiving and Christmas season.”
