A Life of Service, A Season of Grace

Sam Parsons

At age 17, Sam Parsons felt God’s call to preach. Growing up in a preacher’s home in North Carolina, he had known the Lord since childhood, but in 1966, he renewed his faith during a Billy Graham crusade. That summer, he stood before his church and declared that God was calling him to carry the Gospel wherever the Lord led.

For 58 years, Sam has done just that — from small country churches to large congregations, from local revivals to mission fields in Bangladesh, Tanzania, Mexico, Jamaica and Uruguay — faithfully serving alongside his wife, Rebecca. “She was exactly what the Lord wanted me to have,” Sam says of his ministry partner of nearly 50 years, until her passing in 2018.

The Parsons’ ministry stretched from a 36-member mission church in Florida that grew to more than 1,000 members, to churches across Georgia where Sam served as pastor, chaplain and hospital minister. Together, they led hundreds of revivals and saw many come to faith.

After Rebecca’s passing, health challenges followed: COVID-19, bypass surgery and a car accident that left Sam with brain injury complications. Medical bills piled up while his income disappeared. Mission:Dignity® stepped in with monthly support, meeting needs at just the right time. “Mission:Dignity has been a miracle of the Lord for me,” Sam says.

Now at age 75, Sam continues teaching Bible studies and writing. His heart rests in Psalm 46:1 (NLT): God is our refuge and strength, always ready to help in times of trouble.
