Still Saying Yes: The Story of Michael and Sandra Dowling

The Dowlings

Michael and Sandra Dowling never set out to live quietly. They set out to live faithfully.

More than 50 years ago, Michael was working a government job in Tennessee when he felt a clear tug in a different direction. “I knew God was calling me to preach,” he says. So, he left his job and headed to seminary with his wife Sandra and their toddler.

From Corpus Christi to north Texas, the Dowlings poured their lives into small churches — preaching, leading worship, comforting the grieving, celebrating baptisms, teaching children and sweeping fellowship halls on Saturday nights.

“We didn’t just go to church,” Sandra says. “We were the church. Together.”

Decades passed. Their kids grew up passing out bulletins and stacking chairs. Ministry became their family rhythm. But as it does for many faithful servants, retirement came with uncertainty. There was no pension, no savings cushion, just faith that God would provide.

And He did — through Mission:Dignity®.

“This support came at the right time,” Michael says. “It’s a blessing that reminds us we’re not alone.”

Now in their seventies, the Dowlings still say “yes” to God’s guidance. Michael fills in when pastors need a break. Sandra mentors younger ministry wives. They are not looking for recognition but simply answering the call.

When you give to Mission:Dignity, you help faithful couples like the Dowlings continue to serve without fear of future finances.
