Support That’s More than Medicine

Your GuideStone® medical plan utilizes Express Scripts® as our pharmacy benefit manager. So, in the same way your medical plan provides for doctor’s visits, your Express Scripts prescription plan provides an easy, cost-effective way to obtain the medication your doctor prescribes. Express Scripts is the largest independent manager of pharmacy benefits in the United States and one of the country’s largest pharmacies, serving more than 85 million people!

If your doctor prescribes a specialty medication, that is covered, too. Accredo is the specialty pharmacy arm of Express Scripts. And the good news is you can access both Express Scripts and Accredo from the Express Scripts mobile app.

Save Cash on Prescriptions by Understanding How Your Benefits Work

If your health benefits include a prescription co-pay:

  • A 30-day supply of your prescription is available at a retail store. A 90-day supply is available through mail order.
  • Specialty prescriptions are also available as a 30-day supply through mail order.
  • A 90-day supply of maintenance medications may be filled at Walgreens or CVS. Please refer to the Member Choice handout for additional information.

  • Maintenance drugs filled at a retail pharmacy (other than Walgreens or CVS) will include a $10 penalty after the second retail fill. The $10 penalty will not accumulate toward the deductible or maximum out-of-pocket limit.
  • If the cost of your prescription is less than the co-pay, no co-pay will be charged.
  • If a non-generic drug is purchased when a generic is available, you will pay the difference in the cost of the non-generic drug over its generic equivalent.

If your health benefits count prescription costs toward a deductible:

  • A 30-day supply of your prescription is available at a retail store. A 90-day supply is available through mail order.
  • Specialty prescriptions are also available as a 30-day supply through mail order.
  • A 90-day supply of maintenance medications may be filled at Walgreens for a similar price as mail order.
  • If a non-generic drug is purchased when a generic is available, you will pay the difference in the cost of the non-generic drug over its generic equivalent.
